An experiment in augmented reality concepts & prototyping
Inspired by Luke W.'s article, What Would Augment Reality, and his experimental AR concepts, we were challenged to look at our everyday life and see how AR could fit in.

"My high-level goal, however, was to literally 'augment' reality. That is, to give people abilities they wouldn't otherwise have through the inclusion of digital information and actions in the physical world."
- Luke W.
Luke W's exploration of how AR could be used to further explain other visuals and instructions - such as laundry.
Luke W's exploration of being able to utilize AR to help identify poisonous plants while on a walk or hike.
In this exploration, Luke W. takes speed limit signs a step further with AR - telling the user how their speed compares to the limit.
I've been getting more into cooking recently, trying more and more recipes. It's pretty easy to go online and find something tasty to try.
My issue? Sometimes the recipes can get real messy. I primarily use a phone or laptop to follow recipes and often find myself taking time to wash off my hands to look at the next step(s).
I don't want to constantly go wash the raw meat and gook from my hands before looking up the next step.

What do most people need to know when cooking? What steps/functions could be replaced with AR?

A delicious dish that takes multiple steps to prep it just right.
Within the first week of this project, I created a draft timer interface to put into After Effects. This allowed me to quickly mock up a POC and start testing out After Effect's motion tracker. Additionally, this gave me a better idea of scaling and spacing for the next interface iteration.

The following round of animations was more focused on what the potential interfaces could look like and how the user could interact with them. I also experimented with darkening the footage to create a higher contrast between the UI and reality (nice in thought, but made my footage look lower in quality).

The "final" concept used a higher contrast in typographic sizes to improve readability and improve the overall hierarchy. Given more time, I would have like to iterate further with UI.
